Staycation in Almaguin, Where we can Rediscover our Flow

May 19th, 2021 by Ciara Ryan

There’s something unique about Almaguin. The nature, people, wildlife, artists, performers and villages all offer a humbling experience. There is an equal combination of residents who lived here, moved away, then came back with worldly experiences to offer, new residents from all over the world, and residents who have lived here since birth along with several other generations in their families. Each one, is uniquely connected with the land, people and the communities surrounding Almaguin. It doesn’t take long to hear about beautiful vistas to explore, amazing businesses to discover or talented groups and individuals offering an eclectic view of our world.

As the planet we live in puts us all to a test, Adam Grant (April 19, 2021), has written an article called, “There’s a Name for the Blah You’re Feeling: It’s Called Languishing” in the New York Times. He goes on to state the antidote to languishing is achieving a state of flow, “…that elusive state of absorption in a meaningful challenge or a momentary bond, where your sense of time, place and self melts away.” Almaguin has plenty to offer in achieving flow! Transporting us all to places where we can reconnect and support one another, in a way that Almaguin has a history of achieving in a way no other place can.

A team of volunteers have come together to connect everyone to places, spaces, and activities decorated with talent and cohesive collaboration. Our community has been stepping up to remind us all that there are great things to do, places to discover, performers to see and hear, and businesses to support, right in our back yard. There hasn’t been a better time to step out of languish, and into the flow where we can all enjoy and promote our region while having fun!

What is this endeavor happening in Almaguin? It’s called Staycation in Almaguin! With events posted on YouTube and Facebook pages from the first two weeks of Staycation and twenty more weeks in the works, the excitement is building, and the possibilities are endless. The team working behind the scenes is open to ideas and collaborations of any kind! We do hope to bring events into spaces where we can be together in-person, and when this time comes, we’ll have the locations available for everyone to participate. While we’re working together with Public Health guidelines, events and activities will be brought to your home through online platforms (listed below). Where the internet is a challenge, there are team members who can be contacted through the Almaguin Community Economic Development (ACED) webpage, where we can collaborate and find a way to overcome barriers and find a way to include everyone.

Let’s reignite the innovative nature of the highlands and refresh our memories to support the great people and activities our home has to offer! Join us at Staycation in Almaguin!
